What I do

Claudia Lloyd

I am an Architect by profession and a builder by choice. I find joy in the limitation of Architecture which rightly is its strength. There is fulfillment in enabling the transient idea to take form, to empower its inevitable tendency to stabilize. A good creation demands struggle that a routine builder constantly tries to dodge. Often the simpler expressions call for greater sophistication. In the absence of sophistication there is nothing to build.

After my graduation in mainland India I started my career in 2002 with a very brief stint in the public work department of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The "W" sunshades in the islands since 2002 may be marked as an event on my career timeline :-). The next two years were at Bangalore. What I gathered is the experience on villas and layouts, long rides to outer ring road and some good people I wouldn't want to lose. Tsunami of 2004 marks another event when I moved to Dubai. The following two years I was familiarizing with Dubai with a company where I continued with villas.

For 7 years between 2007 to 2015 I worked with one of the best contractors in UAE, Khansaheb Civil Engineering. Khansaheb values to 'Do the right thing' and to 'Take pride in what you do'. Each project I have been involved in here added immense value to my experience.

I moved out of my comfort zone in 2015. I have since seen two businesses. Each business showed another way of performing the same task with its limitations and priorities. Construction is eventually achieved.

“Construction is the art of making a meaningful whole out of many parts. Buildings are witnesses to the human ability to construct concrete things. I believe that the real core of all architectural work lies in the act of construction. At the point in time concrete materials are assembled and erected, the architecture we have been looking for becomes part of the real world.”
